Vicarage Cottage sits in the spacious grounds of The Old Vicarage at Leaton. There are pleasant views over open fields, mature woodland and the nearby church of Holy Trinity. The settlement of Leaton consists of only four widely dispersed houses and a fine stone built Victorian church with a magnificent spire.

The cottage was originally built in 1859 as a stable and coach house and part of the building has also been used as a milking parlour and brewery. It has now been sympathetically converted into a very comfortable and well equipped holiday home. Because of its historic nature it is listed as a Grade 2 building and much of the original fabric has been conserved. The cottage is double glazed, centrally heated throughout and equipped with high quality fittings and furnishings. It can accommodate up to 5 adult guests. There are two double bedrooms upstairs each with en-suite bath/shower facilities and a single ground floor bedroom complete with en-suite bathroom.
The dining room features quality pine and oak furnishings with quarry tiled floor and an impressive staircase. A fully fitted kitchen is equipped with electric oven/grill/hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and dryer. A welcome hamper of groceries is presented to each new party of guests.

A well appointed sitting room provides guests with dual aspect views over garden, fields and woodland. Early each new year the garden is a carpet of snowdrops which are followed by a splendid display of Spring daffodils and colourful rhododendrons. A television, video recorder, DVD player and open fire add to the comforts of home. Also in the sitting room is a comprehensive browser, which is full of ideas for days out both locally and further afield. We have copies of current menus from local pubs and restaurants. Full details, including maps, to help you find your way, are kept in a folder on the coffee table.
A very large garden of about one and a half acres is designated for guests use. There is a barbeque for outdoor meals together with garden seats and a table with a large parasol. There is a greenhouse and a stream runs along the boundary between the cottage garden and adjacent woodland. At the rear of the cottage there are several car parking spaces.
The Shrewsbury - Oswestry bus service passes a very short distance from the property. The bus can be stopped at any point along the route by request. This service runs from about 7.30am until 6pm during the week - there is no service on Sunday. A four mile scenic journey takes you through delightful countryside with views of the Welsh Mountains into the medieval county town of Shrewsbury. Visitors can wander through the shuts and passages of the town with its many half-timbered houses, exclusive shops, antique markets, museums, castle and Abbey.
Supermarket shopping is a ten minute drive away from the cottage on the northern outskirts of Shrewsbury. The local village store is just a mile away in the village of Bomere Heath. The shop in the village is open from 7am - 9pm every day including Sundays and offers a wide range of services including newspapers, groceries, and off-licence. A Post Office and Pub (The Red Lion) are also in the village.
A service is held each Sunday morning at 10.45am at the church of Holy Trinity, Leaton which is just a one minute walk from the cottage. At other times during the week, should you wish to visit the church, your hosts, Joan and Stephen Mansell Jones, have a key so that guests may enjoy its peace and tranquillity from within.
